A day not to be missed ANOTHER great bank holiday day out has been lined up the 2025 Chobham Carnival. The entertainment is confirmed, the funfair is booked, stallholder applications are flooding in and some impressive procession entries are being planned. Make sure the date, Monday, 5 May, is in your diary and come along with family and friends to enjoy the area’s biggest community event of the year. The main arena attraction is a unique spectacle – camel racing, staged by a company that has been thrilling audiences around the UK for decades. You will be cheering Joseph’s Amazing Camels and their jockeys, competing in a sport that is huge in the Middle East. As well as racing, the camels will be on display so that the public can meet the splendid animals and learn more about them. The entertainment will also include displays by Prime Acrobatics and SV Elite Dance Studio, performances by St Lawrence School maypole dancers, the Rock Choir and Chobham Morris, and a traditional Punch and Judy show. “Camel racing was much enjoyed when it featured at the carnival in 2012,” said carnival association chairman Tim Elwin. “We are sure they will be another big hit this year, along with the other performances being featured throughout the day. Jimmy Noyce’s traditional funfair will be back with a selection of rides and there will be sideshows among the large collection of stalls around the showground, including the popular coconut shy. The theme for the carnival parade is Space, and we some highly creative entries involving aliens, astronauts, planets and spaceships are expected. “There is a myriad of options for creating some impressive entries, from depictions of the planets and UFOs to Buzz Lightyear and the International Space Station,” added Tim. Gates open at the carnival fete, in Chobham Recreation Ground, at 11am. Please bring some cash to make a donation on entry and to make payments at stalls and traders that are unable to accept cards. The arena events start at around 1pm and continue to around 5pm, with two performances of the main acts. The procession leaves Chobham Rugby Club in Windsor Road at 11.30am and arrives at the recreation ground at about 12.10pm. It can be safely viewed in Windsor Road, High Street and Station Road. Parade entries will be accepted up to Friday, 2 May – Download an entry form from www.chobhamcarnival.co.uk. Extra parking will be available in the village on carnival day, at Broadford in Castle Grove Road, Chobham Adventure Farm in Bagshot Road and Chobham Community Centre in Windsor Road. There will be limited disabled-permit parking in the recreation ground. A parking locations map will be posted on this website.
